On Saturday 9th May and Sunday 10th May Bassenthwaite Sailing Club, and another 300 sailing clubs around the country are hosting a Royal Yachting Association Push the Boat Out Weekend - 9.00am to 5.00pm.
Visitors (adults and kids over 8 years old) will be able to have up to a dozen 30 minute taster sessions trying out different ways of getting afloat. Younger kids may be able to try out some activities with an adult. It is free of charge because we want to encourage you to try out and enjoy watersports.
The different ways of getting afloat will include :- Stand up paddle boards, sit in kayaks, sit on kayaks, canadian canoes, coracle, rowing boat, Topper and Olympic Laser single Handed dinghies, Enterprise, GP14 and RS400 double handed dinghies the Flying 15 keelboat and a Catamaran.
With 30 minute taster sessions in each you could easily spend all day at our sailing club so bring a picnic or come & sample the snacks and drinks from our kitchen. We suggest that you get there early to ensure you have time to try out lots of ways of getting afloat.
There is ample free car parking, plenty of picnic benches, plenty of fresh air and magical views over Bassenthwaite Lake and the Cumbria Fells.
Bring a waterproof jacket , a few changes of clothes, towel and old trainers as it is likely that you will get a bit wet. We will provide buoyancy aids.
