Kendal Judo Club is known for its top level competitors but it was the turn of the lower graded, coloured belt wearers to take to the contest mat this weekend.
Nearly 150 players from all over the north of England competed in an event designed to encourage beginners to put into actual combat the techniques they have been learning in their clubs.
Despite the lack of experience of most of the competitors there was some very entertaining contests throughout the day including one young player who enthusiastically fought two others in the wrong group before going on to battle his way to the top spot in his correct round robin.
Cumbrian players in the medals were;
GOLD: Josh Cairne, Ben Dixon, Isaac Hill, Daniel Gould, William Lenney, Hayden Judge, Dale Burns
SILVER: Abdul Ben Hamida, Calum Clee, Kier Hetherington, Katherine Lenney, Adam Dixon, Gary Bentley, Sam Wicks
BRONZE: Jamie Clowes, Eden Carr, Matthew Lenney (who also had the fastest throw of the day - 7 seconds), Adam Hullock, Steven Kovacs, Jamie Pye, Cameron Evans, Luis Stowell, Anthony George, Madeline Judge, Harvey Burns, Robert Jackson
