New President drives in at High Bentham
Cath Halstead has swung into action at Bentham Golf Club as its club president for the next year and aims to attract more ladies into the game under her captaincy.
An active member of the golf club for over twenty years, Cath regularly chips in at all of the club’s competitions and social events. As part of her duties, Cath is keen to promote the game of golf to other women.
Cath Halstead said: “I am honoured to represent Bentham Golf Club as Lady President this year. The club has always welcomed women players of all ages and ability and I would like to further promote the game of golf to female newcomers in the both the junior and senior sections this year. Golf provides a relaxed way to have fun with family or friends and meet new people while keeping fit in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.”
The family run club, situated below the Three Peaks in the picturesque village of High Bentham, want to banish some of the old fashioned perceptions of golf which have driven a wedge between newcomers and the game. It is taking part in a ‘Get into Golf’ initiative offering an introductory 5 week course of professional coaching sessions for £25 and bespoke taster sessions – even providing all the equipment to ensure there are no barriers getting onto the greens.
Isabel Marshall, co-owner of Bentham Golf Club said: “We are delighted Cath has accepted the position as President and we all welcome her to her new role. Like her I am very keen to actively promote the game to more women and girls. Everyone at the club looks forward to developing initiatives that promote the game, breaking down stereotypical barriers.”
