New Cyclo Sportives for Eden - Lakeland Trails on two wheels

July 31, 2013

A brand new cycling weekend is being organised on 17th and 18th August by the award winning Lakeland Trails team.

The event centre is at Frenchfield Sports Centre in Penrith, and the new Lakeland Rides events will see road cyclists from all over the UK take to Eden's quiet back roads and lanes for inspiring 100km and 50km sportive rides. The courses have been planned with scenery in mind, and they will be well marked and marshalled, with feed and refuelling stations along the way.

On Saturday 17th August, the Hartside Hundred 100km cyclo sportive, takes in the big climb of Hartside at almost 2000ft, before a beautiful ride through Alston exploring some of the most unspoilt lanes in the UK. There is also a shorter 50km sportive, as well as a 10km Family Ride and Kid's Fun Rides.

On Sunday 18th August, the Tour Of Eden 100km cyclo sportive, takes in the scenic villages of the upper Eden valley, along with a number of iconic landmarks, including Greystoke and Lowther Castles. The ride takes cyclists towards the Lake District mountains and touches the shore of Ullswater. There is also a shorter 50km sportive, as well as a 10km Family Ride and Kid's Fun Rides.

There is a discounted entry for both events with the Eden Killer Combo - check out the event website www.lakelandrides.com for more details and online entry options.

The events are the brainchild of Lakeland Trails event director Graham Patten. A keen life long cyclist and former international runner, Graham set up the Lakeland Trails events ten years ago, and wanted to bring the successful family based event model to the world of cycling.

Graham says "more and more people are cycling, inspired by the Olympics and the successes of Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome. We wanted to create an event that catered for everyone - stunning, well organised courses for both fun riders and serious riders, yet we also wanted to include shorter events for those with families. Lakeland Rides should be a great weekend and we're looking forward to surprising riders with the glorious routes that are in store for them "

Lakeland Rides will be supporting the charity Nurture Eden and £2 from every entrant will be donated to the charity. The events are being supported by Eden District Council, the UK's largest cycle store Wheelbase and Kendal based VO2 Max Events.
