Active Cumbria have worked with England Handball and Keswick School to get a Handball satellite Club off the ground.
20 members of the teaching staff and students from Keswick and Cockermouth Schools attended a Handball Leaders Award to support these two schools in developing the game further and creating sustainable delivery.
A second Handball Leaders course and further training will be delivered with Ullswater Community College and Queen Elizabeth School attending to train up the teaching staff and 6th form students so they are able to deliver Handball sessions with the long-term aim of creating a network of schools in Cumbria that can play one another in friendly competition.
Ian Turnbull who leads on the delivery of the satellite Handball Club at Keswick School said
"The Handball Leaders Course was fantastic, Andy Clark the lead coach from Handball England was great and has agreed to come in and do some more training on INSET days which will be funded through the satellite club to improve delivery and make it more sustainable”.
