Grand Day Out in Cumbria

January 7, 2016

Have a ‘Grand Day Out’ in Cumbria this January

As the UK witnesses more unprecedented flooding, people from all sections of the outdoor industries across the country with a love for the Lake District and Cumbria, have got together to do something pretty special… all with the aim of giving something back to help the people and places that make this amazing landscape the place that it is…

Led by legendary mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington this group of like-minded individuals have given their time, knowledge and expertise to organise a series of ‘Grand Day Out’ fundraising events happening throughout Cumbria on Saturday 16th January 2016.

Tickets are on sale now for events already scheduled, including guided fell walks, music gigs, film screenings, trail runs, cycle tours, outdoor skills sessions… to book your tickets visit:www.granddayoutcumbria.org.uk

All of the proceeds raised from these events will go towards the Cumbria Community Foundation’s Flood Recovery Appeal and Cumbria’s Mountain Rescue Teams, who played such a vital role in helping communities during the floods in December.

Grand Day Out is being generously supported by a huge range of partners from around the UK, many of whom have donated fantastic prizes, including weekend breaks, outdoor clothing and much more. Which also means GDO will be able to host both a charity auction and a raffle to raise additional funds. Keep an eye of the website for further details in the coming days.

Tom Rumsey, one of the volunteer event organisers, said: “What started out as a small event aimed at getting a few people together to raise some funds for the CCF Flood Recovery Appeal soon went viral. The incredible response from individuals, businesses and organisations from across Cumbria, and for that matter all over the UK has been amazing. We hope the Grand Day Out on the 16th January will encourage lots of people to come and enjoy this amazing part of the country.’’

GDO are keen to make the most of this opportunity to raise as much money for the Cumbria Flood Recovery Appeal as possible. We are also encouraging people to organise their own events as part of the overall day, let us know what you are planning, then we can then added it to our list of activities and promote it through the GDO website to raise event more funds. The organisers of GDO are looking to host additional events during 2016, and would welcome any ideas for events and offers of help to get things off the ground.

Sir Chris Bonington, Patron of A Grand Day Out in Cumbria, said: ‘’Do please come and support ‘A Grand Day Out in Cumbria’. Events will be held and hosted by communities all over the county to celebrate the resilience and spirit of our fellow Cumbrians and raise funds for the Cumbria Community Foundation’s Flood Recovery Appeal, and our Mountain Rescue Teams, who gave such wonderful support throughout the crisis. It will be a great fun day for all who attend and at the same time will help raise much needed funds to help people who find themselves in financial distress after losing their home or their business.’’
