March 25, 2015
This May, Active Cumbria is proud to be supporting National Go Canoeing Week, taking place from May 23rd – 31st. There are loads of ways to get involved whatever your age or ability!
Go Canoeing Week is British Canoeing’s annual festival of paddling, which aims to raise the profile of canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding and encourage as many people as possible to pick up a paddle and get out on the water.
Last year’s event was the biggest yet, and this year we want to help Go Canoeing go even further. The 2016 Olympics are on the horizon and to reflect this, the theme for Go Canoeing Week 2015 is Road To Rio.
The aim for the event this year is to collectively paddle the distance from the UK to Rio and back again... that's 24,901 miles!
There will be loads of great activities taking place across England, and we're sure it's going to be the biggest and best Go Canoeing Week yet. Here in Cumbria, we have the following;
Canoe The View - Derwentwater
You will be taught basic canoeing and paddling techniques, journey into the quiet bays around the lake shores and visit the islands. You'll spot some of our local wildlife, maybe play some canoe games, and we'll enjoy a hot drink whilst enjoying the breathtaking scenery. You will discover for yourself the places of interest, wildlife, history and geology that have helped shape these undeniably special locations.
