Local athlete, founder of the Parkside Panthers Running Group & Fitness Instructor Sonja Foster is undertaking an incredible challenge to run 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days, raising money to support young people in Furness.
In recognition of this amazing athletic endeavour, local schools in Barrow will be running the equivalent length of Sonja’s challenge - 262 miles in just one day with each child running a mile.
Sonja & the schools taking part are doing this in support of the charitable work of Brathay Trust who help young people have happier futures. All the money raised through this event will support their Focus on Furness Appeal which aims to raise £45,000 to:
This is the second time Sonja has done the 10 in 10, this time she is doing it for the Focus on Furness appeal: “I am doing this to raise as much money as I can for Brathay because I’ve seen first-hand what a fantastic job they do, the money I raise will be staying in Furness, for children and young people in Furness.
Child Poverty affects 3000 young people across Barrow and Furness this affects schooling, self-esteem, mental health and general wellbeing. Brathays work in furness will directly target these young people and their families and will help them improve their chances and future outcomes. The 10in10 challenge for schools will raise the profile of Brathay within the Furness area whilst providing an exciting opportunity for the young people to get involved”
The schools taking part include:
