Do you work or volunteer with Older Adults?
Would you like to be able to promote or deliver Physical Activity sessions within your setting?
Active Cumbria, the Sport and Physical Activity Partnership and part of Cumbria County Council’s Health & Wellbeing Service have teamed up with the award-winning social enterprise Oomph! who specialise in exercise therapy for older adults.
Oomph! have been training and supporting employees and volunteers who work with older people across Cumbria to deliver fun and interactive exercise and activity classes in a variety of settings.
This FREE training is available to anyone who works or volunteers with groups of older adults within Cumbria. Whether you work or volunteer in a residential home, sheltered housing, community venue or support group this training course could be for you!
The 2 day training course is FREE and consists of a mixture of practical and theory based learning which will focus upon;
Understanding how to manage and adapt exercise and activity sessions
Using safe practice and positive motivational behaviour techniques
Planning and delivering exercise activities and sessions
Providing guidance on nutrition, hydration and flexibility and theory based learning
Due to popular demand, the following training courses has been added and we have a small number of places still available;
Oomph! moves away from traditional exercise classes and use singing, familiar upbeat music, colourful sensory props and themed story-telling aiming to improve physical mobility, social interaction and mental stimulation.
Coral, who attended last month's training said:
"I absolutely love my job and I was so happy to get the chance to teach these Oomph! sessions at our care home.
"Since I got my Oomph! qualification I told all of the ladies and gents here about it and we held a little practice session last week before the proper classes started. Myself and the other girls have special blue T-shirts to wear for classes and now everyone here knows that when they see me in my blue top they have something fun to look forward to.
"Everyone has been really excited about the classes, the props such as the pom-poms, glittery scarves and balloons have gone down especially well.
"It's so important for the people in the care home to have things to look forward to and to have a chance to express themselves.”
