FOR CHILDREN & ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES
Barrow Park, 11.00am, Sunday 28th October 2012.
The hosting of the Olympic Games in 2012 has seen great awareness raised in sport, health & fitness.
Hopefully this will continue and there will be a lasting legacy from all the success and participation achieved by GB’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Many children and adults throughout Cumbria will have been watching all the action on TV and quite a few actually travelled to watch the events in person.
But do they know what it actually feels like to cover 800m, 1500m or 5000m?
Most people are lucky enough to be able to run to some degree and will therefore appreciate even more the outstanding efforts and times achieved by the Olympians.
We are offering you a chance to help local people experience for themselves what it's like to participate in an event and understand exactly how far their Olympic heroes covered and how much effort they had to put in.
Local running group the Walney Wind Cheetahs, in partnership with the Furness Parent & Carer Disability Forum, National Autistic Society Furness Branch, Wildcats Wheelchair Sports Club, Barrow Borough Sports Council, The Park Leisure Centre, and Barrow parkrun are staging a Fun Event over two distances of approximately 800m and 1500m.
The event will be open only to people with a disability, of any kind, but they may obviously be accompanied by a carer, partner, parent or guardian if need be.
Both routes will be well marshalled and signposted.
If you would like to use this event as a “sponsorship opportunity” and raise money for yourselves then please feel free to do so. However you will have to organise and collect any monies yourself.
We will require an approximate number of people attending and would appreciate a response no later than Friday 19th October 2012.
To register and for more information please contact Michelle on (01229) 407312
There will be plenty of volunteers available to walk, push, jog or run the full route with participants and offer assistance where necessary. If you, or any of your group, do require extra assistance can you please inform Michelle at the time of registering and this will be arranged.
Barrow parkrun have declared their future commitment and offered their weekly Saturday morning run as the ideal exit route to sustain future momentum of this event.
Working together we can make this an immediate and long-term success.
