Two creative and talented young ladies from Dowdales School became Radio Cumbria Reporters on Wednesday for the Cumbria School Games Finals in Carlisle.
Leah Clough & Robyn Halcrow from Dowdales were selected after submitting entries into the Cumbria School Games Young Reporter competition.
The Local Organising Committee of the Cumbria School Games in partnership with BBC Radio Cumbria developed this outstanding opportunity for young people to become reporters for the day.
Robyn & Leah’s day was extremely busy with interviewing participants, special guests, winning teams and being interviewed themselves on Radio Cumbria.
Nicola Maclean, Cumbria School Games Local Organiser said;
“The competition for the Young Reporters roles at the School Games Festival attracted a high calibre of entrants. We were delighted with the quality of the entries and the three successful students were able to experience a unique opportunity. Through interviewing some of our guests as well as covering the general event they will have learnt a great deal which we hope will enable them to develop into the journalists of the future”
Belinda Artingstoll, Special Features Producer, BBC Radio Cumbria said;
‘Robyn & Leah were great, they were very enthusiastic all day long. Very comfortable chatting on the radio and both they and their teacher were a pleasure to have as part of our team. They did commentating on the hockey and also read out the winning poem as well as being interviewed themselves and they were great at all of it!’
