Councillor helps Carlisle teen box clever

October 21, 2013

Deborah Earl, County Councillor for Harraby South, awarded Scott Clarkson £350 from Carlisle Local Committee’s Local Member Scheme to go towards the cost of boxing equipment that will enable him to compete at a national level.

The 17-year old heavyweight is a member of Currock House Amateur Boxing Club and is starting to make an impression nationally in amateur boxing competitions.
The £350, which comes from a local committee funding stream that allows each councillor a £10,000 budget to spend in their division, is to fund new equipment for Scott including gloves and headgear.

Councillor Earl said: “Scott has a real talent for boxing and is now taking part in bigger and more prestigious competitions around the country so his training, travelling and equipment costs are increasing.
“This money we’ve provided will help with these expenses and enable Scott to continue making progress in the sport and carry on being a fine representative of Carlisle at a national level.”

Scott said: “I would like to thank Deborah for her support and financial help towards my boxing as it can be very expensive.
“Deborah’s help, and also the support of Cumbrian Roofing Solutions, will allow me to focus on my boxing, update my equipment and travel further for sparring.
“Hopefully I will be able to improve on last year’s achievements; one of which was being the Northwest champion.”
