The course was delivered by Julie Callaghan (FA Regional Coach Development Manager, North West) and held at Trinity School.
Futsal is seen as more of an appropriate form of small sided football, which utilises indoor hard surface facilities. This is a varied format of the game that offers high intensity play giving children the ability to make a multitude of decisions in an environment that offers a close resemblance to traditional formats of the game.
Julie Callaghan delivered a very practically based course giving the candidates a real life experience of the game of Futsal. A clear overview of the laws of Futsal, followed by some Futsal practices for developing players before getting into the game itself gave candidates an excellent experience of what Futsal is about and the different challenges faced when working with children within this game.
The course provided a lot of debate around various aspects of the game and challenged peoples thinking about how Futsal is delivered and the techniques and tactics associated with the game.
Cumberland FA will be holding a number of in service events for coaches during the coming months giving them a chance to see Futsal in action and cover some laws of the game as well as answering any questions.
