262 children from 10 diifferent schools in Barrow each ran a mile in an organised event that took place at Furness Academy to raise money for the Brathay Furness Appeal. The Children experienced what the 10 in 10 Marathon runner Sonja Foster will be doing later in the year when she takes on the Brathay 10 in 10
It was a happy coincidence that it was also International Womens Day. Sonja is an inspiration to women in running, she was awarded SportMaker of the Year in 2012 to recognise her achievements for introducing people to running, she is also founder of the Parkside Panthers Running Group & a Fitness Instructor at the local leisure centre.
Sonja & the schools that took part did it in support of the charitable work of the Brathay Trust who help young people have happier futures. All the money raised through this event will support their Focus on Furness Appeal which aims to raise £45,000 to:
Sonia reported "The day was epic, seeing that many children taking part was amazing, they were full of smiles and thoroughly enjoyed getting out and running, it has been a great day for all."
