Active Cumbria Announces New Partnership Board In The Run Up To 2012 London Olympic And Paralympic Games

Active Cumbria, the Sport and Physical Activity Partnership, one of 49 County Sports Partnerships across England has appointed a new Partnership Board to help drive forward the sport and physical activity agenda across the county. In the run up to the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games the Board will seek to raise the profile of the sector across the county and help communities across Cumbria realise a true legacy of the Games.

Many networks and sectors are represented on the newly appointed Board with members being tasked with advocating the hugely beneficial role Sport and Physical Activity can play in the local community;

Brendan Jameson, Leader of South Lakeland District Council and Chair of the Cumbria 2012 Group will take up the position of Chair and said:

"I am very pleased to be joining the Active Cumbria Partnership Board at such an exciting time in the run up to 2012 when sport and physical activity should be on everyone's agenda.  I believe passionately in the importance of the role Active Cumbria has to play in supporting the local sport and physical activity delivery networks in the county, whether that is as a volunteer through one of the Legacy Programmes like Sportmakers or getting more young people involved in sport through programmes like Sportivate."

He continues:

"With the full effects of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games starting to be realized, sport and physical activity will never have a better time to show how it can change lives and communities for the better, whether that's through health benefits or opportunities to excel in a chosen sport, the challenge is delivering a legacy of excellence for the sport and physical activity sector in Cumbria."

Richard Johnston, Partnership Manager at Active Cumbria said:

"We are delighted to welcome all of our new board members at this exciting time for sport and physical activity. We have brought together a really strong Partnership Board that can provide clear direction and advocate for the role of the sector across a range of networks. To have Brendan Jameson as our new Chair is a real coup for the Partnership, I am sure that the whole sector can benefit from his extensive experience of working at Strategic level to promote the benefits that sport and physical activity can bring. Here at Active Cumbria we aim to represent all of our delivery partners working within the county with one unified voice, and this is certainly an area in which our new members will add real value."
