24th November 2011
The league fixture programme, held at Newton Rigg in Penrith enabled a number of Ability Counts teams from around the county to take part thanks to the central location, including West Cumbria United, Carlisle Rovers FC, Chrysalis FC and Eden Mencap United.
There was also female provision for the first time with Eden Mencap United Ladies participating in the development programme during the evening.
The feedback has been very positive with all players, coaches and spectators enjoying the evening in the fun and friendly atmosphere.
Raymond Tallentire (West Cumbria United / People First West Cumbria) said "It was a really good experience and I enjoyed meeting different people."
Kevin Bell (West Cumbria United / People First West Cumbria) said "The evening allowed participants with varying disabilities the opportunity to play football, some for the very first time."
Paul Jennings, Disability Football Development Officer says "With further male and female teams looking to take part in next month's round of fixtures, the Ability Counts League will grow and develop throughout this coming season giving more opportunities for disabled footballers to participate in football."
All teams participating in the league commit to Pan Disability football which focuses on creating opportunities for footballers with varying levels of ability and varying impairments to compete in the same environment. For more details click HERE
