A CUMBRIA driving range encourages more people to give the sport a go

May 14, 2013

A CUMBRIA driving range is backing the drive to encourage more people to give the sport a go.

Zone Golf in Barrow-in-Furness is staging a coaching programme for would-be golfers.

Cut-price schemes are part of the county-wide programme to provide more opportunities for people to try the sport.

The driving range, which can be found at the Fairways Hotel and Range, is offering a course of four 90 minute group coaching sessions for anyone aged 16 and over who is a beginner to the sport and not a member of a golf club at the bargain price of just £20.

Says Nicola Martindale, development officer for the Cumbria County Golf Partnership: “This is an idea opportunity to learn a new sport – or even refresh skills you may have learnt a few years ago but have not really used.

“Golf is a great way to meet people, keep fit and have fun.”

All the sessions are delivered by the range’s PGA professional Paul Rawlinson and start on May 14.

The national Get into golf campaign is run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships, which work to grow the game.

Get into golf opportunities include free or low-cost beginner courses with PGA professionals. They are a fun and sociable way to start golf – and a great way to make new friends.
