Nearly 200 girls took part in a Futsal competition at The Sands Centre, Carlisle to finish the season on a high. 28 teams entered in Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 age groups using the skills they have learned over the winter.Cumberland FA delivered the Futsal Competition in partnership with the Longhorn Youth Football League and Carlisle City Council Sport Development while raising funds for CFM's Cash for Kids.
The competition followed taster festivals and coach in-service training sessions during the winter months to give girls the opportunity to play a different game indoors! The Clubs in Cumberland have seen the benefits of playing Futsal, in terms of skill development as well as the fact it is indoors and means matches are not cancelled for the weather! Next season will see a 'winter break' for the outdoor League to allow teams to play more Futsal.
The atmosphere in the Sands Centre was electric for the Under 10 kick off, with ten teams playing in two groups. With plenty of parents and spectators watching in the balcony and watching the action, the supportive noise was fantastic and brought a real festival atmosphere to the event!
