‘The Mayson Bros Copeland Sports Awards 2012 will be held on Friday November 2nd at Whitehaven Civic Hall. The prestigious event will yet again celebrate sporting excellence in Copeland and reward a fantastic band of volunteers, coaches, teams, clubs and athletes.
Last year saw Wigan Warriors’ Lee Mossop scoop the Sports Personality of the Year Award for his courageous efforts in the Challenge Cup Final. Also amongst the prizes were the St Benedict’s Shooting Stars PE Club and Manchester United ‘Keeper Dean Henderson who claimed the Junior Sports Personality Award.
This year’s event will also welcome a new category- ‘The Inspiring Sport’ Award, which will go to an individual, such as a teacher or coach who is inspiring the next generation of sports stars!
2012 has been an unforgettable year for national and local sport and the Mayson Bros Copeland Sports Awards promises to be a great way to celebrate a fantastic year.
Do you know a local sporting hero that you feel should be recognised in any of the following categories Copeland Sports Awards categories?
Sports Personality of the Year - This award will go to an athlete or player who has achieved an outstanding accolade such as a national title or represented their country.
Inspiring Sport Award - This award is for an individual who is inspiring young people to play sport. This could be a teacher, coach or youth club leader.
Club of the Year - This is for a club which has shown fantastic community engagement or development. It isn’t necessarily for a club with the best team on the pitch, but the best provision off it.
Coach of the Year - This is for a person who has shown either-outstanding voluntary commitment or someone whose coaching skills have developed individuals or teams.
Volunteer of the Year - For a person who has shown outstanding commitment to their organisation. This could be ground staff, a treasurer or general ‘Dogs Body’
Young Leader Award - This is for a young person aged 14-18 who has shown great commitment to their organisation or school.
Disability Sport Personality of the year - This award is for a person who has achieved success in disability sport. This could be for performance, volunteering or coaching.
Lifetime Service Award - This award will be given to a person who has shown outstanding commitment and dedication to sport and their community over a number of years.
Special Recognition Award - This award is for a team, performer, coach or club that has achieved something special this year.
Sporting Initiative - This award can go to a club, organisation or National Governing Body that has provided a sporting initiative that has raised participation or delivered a project that has inspired more people to take up sport.

Evening Celebration wiil be held at the Whitehaven Civic Hall Friday 2nd November 2012. Tickets £25 each. Tables of 10 £225. Tickets include a succulent 2-course dinner
