The Community Games programme provides a great opportunity for you to bring your community together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Community Games programme in Cumbria is co-ordinated by Active Cumbria, The Sport and Physical Activity Partnership who provides support, resources and funding opportunities for communities to organise their own local sporting and cultural events in celebration of London 2012 Games. The events can be anything from an organised football tournament, a triathlon or a sponsored walk to a village carnival or village show, and will reflect the interests and needs of that local community. There may also be many schools that are planning to stage events linked to the Olympic and Paralympic Games that could also benefit from being involved in the programme.
Community Games was the brainchild of Legacy Trust UK, a charity whose role is to create lasting impact from the Olympic and Paralympic Games by funding ideas and local talent to inspire creativity across the UK. The Community Games programme will provide support and resources which includes a national accredited training and mentoring programme, designed to create a lasting legacy of community volunteers with the skills and confidence to activate social change.

“We’re looking for inspirational events in Cumbria that through the Community Games programme we can offer some support and resource. We already know there’s great stuff already being planned in communities across the county following such a celebratory year in 2012. I would urge local event organisers or those thinking about organising events this summer to get in touch to see if the Community Games programme can help your event.”
