Active Cumbria, the Sport and Physical Activity Partnership and part of Cumbria County Council’s Health & Wellbeing Service have teamed up with the award-winning social enterprise Oomph! who specialise in exercise therapy for older adults.
Oomph! will be training and supporting employees and volunteers who work with older people across the County to deliver fun and interactive exercise and activity classes in a variety of community based settings.
What is Oomph?
Oomph! moves away from traditional exercise classes and use singing, familiar upbeat music, colourful sensory props and themed story-telling aiming to improve physical mobility, social interaction and mental stimulation. For further information regarding Oomph classes please visit their website.
Why should we move more?
Benefits of regular exercise for older adults include;
Just as importantly regular physical activity increases mental health and wellbeing and provides opportunities for social interaction and reduces feelings of isolation. All of the above increase the ability of older adults to live independently for longer.
Oomph! is dedicated to transforming the health and quality of life of older people through inclusive exercise and activity classes that improve physical mobility, social interaction and mental stimulation.
