The Inclusive Event - 12th & 13th July The Sheepmount Stadium & Penrith Leisure Centre
Chair of Eden District Council, Cllr Joan Raine said:
"This was a fantastic, well organised event. I am delighted that the Schools in Eden won the splendid trophy. All credit must go to parents, teachers and volunteers who encourage the children to participate in physical activity, may the encouragement of the adults along with the friendly competitive spirit seen today become a part of the youngsters every day life. Physical exercise not only improves fitness levels it has longer term health and social benefits, all linked to a long and healthy life."
"I am absolutely delighted that the nine schools representing Eden at the Schoolympics won the County event for 2011.
The Eden Valley Sport Partnership ran 14 events in the rounds leading to the Schoolympics with 30 schools and in excess of 680 young people competing in Eden with a view to securing a place to represent Eden at the Schoolympics."
Becky Wolstenholme, Partnership Development Manager for Eden School Sport Partnership
Young disabled people from each School Sport Partnership that are identified as having sporting potential will compete at our inclusive events on the 12th & 13th July.
As an independent regional building society, the Cumberland Building Society believe responsibility to the local community extends beyond providing a range of financial products and services. Last year, they donated over £100,000 to support local community, educational and charitable initiatives.
"Like so much in community sport, the event's success is down to strong teamwork - in this case between Active Cumbria (formerly know as Cumbria Sport Partnership), local school sports partnerships and Cumbria's network of dedicated Competition Managers.
By inspiring more young people to get into sport and be the best they can be, events like the SCHOOLympics will help us achieve a lasting grassroots sporting legacy from London 2012."
"Congratulations to all the young people taking part, both as participants and as volunteers. I wish you the very best of luck in achieving your sporting aims."
Cumbria SCHOOLympics was fantastic, one of the best, if not the best one sporting event we have put on..............
