Inspire Mark Projects

 

London 2012 is more than just a sporting event, it's about inspiring people to try something new. The Inspire programme can help you achieve this, and this video tells some of the stories of people who have been inspired already.

The Inspire programme is an Olympic and Paralympic first, recognising non-commercial projects and events insspired by London 2012, its calues and ethos.  The UK wide programme has been running since 2009 and connect projects and events with the Gamesthrough the 'be inspired' brand and many once in a lifetime opportunityes usch as trip to the Olympic Park and vists from Olympians and key 2012 board members, including Lord Coe.

Progress to date (November 2011)

There are currently over 1,700 projects and events across teh UK recognised a par tof the London 2012 Inspire programme.  Within the Northwest there are 220 projects, the highest number outside of London.

Projects are themed over a nubmer of areas inclduing Culture, Sport, Truce, Engironmental Sustainability, Volunteering, Education and Buisenss and Kills and these span the whole of the Northwest region.

Cumbria has 21 'be inspired' projects resulting in £2,150,214 invest funding that will hopefully achieve 105,526 participants.

Deadline for applicated to be assessed by LOCOG is Thursday 1st December.  in order for projects to be processed by this date applciations must be made by noon on 21st November. To Find out how you can get involved 

Inspire Projects in Cumbria

  • Cumbria Tourism's Passport to Pedalling will encourage people to participate, enjoy and progress in cycling.  The project will engage with existing cyclists by encouraging them to cycle more regularly and new participants to take up the sport.  The concept of the 5 Olympic Rings will be used to create a five staged progression to encourage people to "Train for the Games".
  • Kendal Arts International's  Lakes Alive, Welcoming the World, Welcoming the Light. A Cumbria wide outdoor animation programme of regional, national and international reach and significance which will have a transformational affect on people, places and image, bringing international events and community opportunities to play in public spaces across the whole of Cumbria.

APR 2010: Cumbria Talented Athlete Ambassador (CTAA) Programme has offcially been recognised as part of the London 2012 Inspire Programme. CTAA programme is attached to the Cumbria Talented Athlete Fund. The Cumbria Talented Athlete Fund has been created as part of the sporting legacy of London 2012 to support Cumbria's most talented athletes. The fund is being supported by Cumbria County Council, South Lakeland District Council and Allerdale Borough Council and is being administered by the Cumbria Sport Partnership.

MAR 2010: Cumbria Sport Partnership's Sport Unlimited Programme has been recognised as part of the London 2012 Inspire Programme. Cumbria Sport Partnership were the first to apply and be granted the recognition being recognised nationally through the London 2012 Inspire Programme.
